Give Good Gifts

“Turn our mourning into gladness and our sorrows into wholeness.” Esther C:23-25

If you then, who are wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good things to those who ask him. Matthew 7:11

Piety

God, give good gifts. Make sure we get what we need.

“Ut in omnibus glorificetur Deus.”

“That in all things, God may be glorified.”

No matter what station or position we may hold in life, we owe our fate to God. Esther recognizes this when despite being picked as Queen, she puts her temporal power and influence aside and lays prostrate before God and asks God to save her people. Esther knows that in God, all things are possible. “As a child I used to hear from the books of my forefathers that you, O LORD, always free those who are pleasing to you. Now help me, who am alone and have no one but you, O LORD, my God.”

The picture of a faithful and loving God is contrasted by the wickedness of the people we meet up with later in the Gospel. The price of our religious freedom was known to Esther.

How right Esther was. “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”
