Prayer
Jesus, you tell us so many things. Help us to truly listen to you. When we hear you calling to us, help us to stop our distractions and say, “Here I am.” Help us to be fully present to your Word and the actions that you command us to undertake. No matter what you ask, help us to approach the task with the open heart of Abraham, willing to take on the toughest tasks you choose for us.
When we take on your commandments, we implore you to remain at our sides and in our hearts. Stay present with us on the mountains of life, in the valleys, crossing the rivers and walking down the streets and pathways you have asked us to follow.
Once you help us over those mountains, give us strength to tackle whatever else lies beyond. In your resurrection, help us to take your message from our hearts and share it with the world so that your people will believe. Help us in our unbelief. Everything is possible to the one who has faith through Christ our Lord. Amen.

“He hardly knew what to say, they were so terrified.”
We have all been afraid. Today’s readings from Sacred Scripture tell us that Jesus, in His humanity, hardly knew what to say when his friends were troubled and upset. At that time, Divinity intervened. God took over. In the face of their fear, God instructed them to listen to Jesus and everything is possible.
Think back to a time when you were afraid. It may be recently or it may have been long ago in your lifetime.
Put yourself back in your room. Instead of dwelling in your fear, like Abraham, offer your fear to Him so he can help you. Whatever test or trial you faced, pray to God the words of Abraham, “Here I am. Spare me. Have pity on me.”
Right then, there is a knock on your door. You open the door of your heart and your friend Jesus is there for you. “Here I am.” Allow Jesus to enter your room.
As Jesus enters, you attempt to put aside your fear and start to clean up so as to make your place more presentable. You start to make a proper place for Jesus in your cluttered room and your cluttered life. Jesus just smiles at you in your busy-ness. He gazes on you and implores you to just relax and enjoy the visit.
You put aside the attempted tent-making. Once you are fully present to Jesus, Jesus is fully present to you. Then, you finally share your fear with Jesus. Jesus shares your fear and tells you that he wants to help you climb whatever mountain you face. But alone, he says, he has no answer.
You implore him, you beg him. Help me. Have compassion on me. Spare me from this test.
Jesus tells you to trust in God. Everything is possible to the one who has faith.
You do so. You listen to Jesus and say, “Yes Lord, I do believe. Help me in my unbelief.”
Through your faith, He helps you to conquer this one. Through your faith, Jesus reminds you that this is not your only test. Just as Abraham faced challenges after he was delivered from killing Isaac, Jesus tells you that there are mountains beyond that you can expect. He reassures you that everything is possible to the one who has faith.
Action:
To whom do you need to be fully present today? Is it to your spouse? Is it to your children? Is it to your parents? Is it to a special friend? Is it to your God? Say to them, “Here I am.”
