Tuesday of the Second Week of Advent
“Though the grass withers and the flower wilts, the word of our God stands forever.” Isaiah 40:8
If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them goes astray, will he not leave the ninety-nine in the hills and go in search of the stray? And if he finds it, amen, I say to you, he rejoices more over it than over the ninety-nine that did not stray. Matthew 18: 12-13

As our time of preparation continues, we can really feel the richness of Isaiah’s prophecy. Everything is right there in Isaiah 40: from the faith to move mountains to the image of the Good Shepherd. Isaiah earns his stripes as a prophet. He foretells the Good News. He even calls it such.
Go up onto a high mountain,
Cry out at the top of your voice,
And he gets it all right. Except for one thing, which Isaiah seems to get wrong: The Lord our God comes with power.
While we know the Lord does have power, no one recognizes it because he comes into the world in the most vulnerable, powerless form he could possibly take – the infant child of a homeless, refugee couple who don’t even have a proper room at the inn or doctor or midwife to care for them.
Yet despite this vulnerable baby, the word of God revealed to us has certainly stood the test of time. And in his powerlessness, he had all the power he ever needed.

Why not add someone in a homeless shelter to your Christmas gift list and get that person what they truly need this year?
Why not make sure you keep Christ in the season with appropriate religious cards and greetings?
