Saturday of the Fourth Week in Ordinary Time
Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have; God is pleased by sacrifices of that kind. Hebrews 13:16
"Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while." Mark 6:31
Piety
The LORD is my shepherd; there is nothing I lack. In green pastures you let me graze; to safe waters you lead me; you restore my strength. You guide me along the right path for the sake of your name. Even when I walk through a dark valley, I fear no harm for you are at my side; your rod and staff give me courage. You set a table before me as my enemies watch; You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Only goodness and love will pursue me all the days of my life; I will dwell in the house of the LORD for years to come. Psalm 23
Study
There is nothing I shall want. Nothing.
Ponder the absolute value of “nothing.” The Psalmist does not sing, “There is little that I want.” How much is enough? Nothing is enough. The good shepherd will take care of all of our needs. Nothing will be left unattended. Nothing. God desires nothing less than finding ways to please us and meet our needs.
We can ignore the careerbuilder.com/monsterjobs.com ladder climbing. We don’t need to be ebayed, Amazoned or Overstocked.comed. The old Honda will get you there as fast as the new Cadillac. Despite Madison Avenues best Addy-Award-winning efforts, if there is anything which God does not provide, then we know that others will be encouraged to share with us out of their abundance in order to please God.
As the Lord meets our every need, we receive strength and restoration as we would benefit from the best vacation in history. God removes us from the hustle and bustle of everyday life to quiet places like those beside restful waters. We can go away to the quiet place just as Jesus did during his forty day fast in the desert to be refreshed.
Action
See if you can spend on day fully relying upon God. Not Sony. Not Apple. Not Giant or Safeway. Not Target or Wal*Mart.
