Christmas Weekday (Saturday Before Epiphany)
We have this confidence in God, that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in regard to whatever we ask, we know that what we have asked him for is ours. 1 John 5:14-15
There was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding. When the wine ran short, the mother of Jesus said to him, "They have no wine." And Jesus said to her, "Woman, how does your concern affect me? My hour has not yet come." His mother said to the servers, "Do whatever he tells you." John 2:1-5
Piety
Father, your Word requires us to listen and act. Help us to hear the words of your Son so that we can translate those into action. Holy Spirit, be present with us as we allow the miracles to occur in our lives. Amen.
Study
He hears us. We do not even have to open our lips, yet He hears us. However, do we hear Him?
Mary understood the quandary that faced the bride groom. The whole town of Cana was likely present for the celebration. Yet they were running out of wine. Despite Jesus' reluctant reply to His mother, he totally understood what she was asking of her son.
The message from Mary to the waiters is the message from Mary to us. She wants us to do whatever He tells us to do. The waiters followed her instructions and His and the results were the first miraculous sign in the Good News according to John.
Action
Miracles are not a one-way street. For the miraculous to occur, it not only takes an intervention by the Lord, but also an openness and willingness on our parts. The leper wants to be healed. The Roman centurion wants his servant cured. The mother wants her daughter alive.
How will you open up the path to the miraculous this week in what you boldly ask the Lord to provide?
