Come To Me To Have Life
March 14, 2013
Thursday of the Fourth Week of Lent
Turn
from your burning wrath; change your mind about punishing your people. Exodus
32:12b
But I have testimony
greater than John’s. The works that the
Father gave me to accomplish, these works that I perform testify on my behalf that
the Father has sent me. John 5:36
Piety
Lord, make me a channel of your peace amidst the daily
battles. Help me not to get caught up in
these temporal struggles but rather to keep focused on the Christian Ideal and
become fully reliant on God. Amen.
Study
The mediator has a most important role and Moses is the
central mediator in both readings -- except to opposite effect. In the first reading, Moses continues to
serve as the protector of the people of God.
He was instructed to lead them out of Egypt and he did. When the Lord gets impatient with his people,
he comes to our defense as both witness and advocate. In the Good News, Jesus explains that if we
persist in turning to false prophets, then Moses will cease his role as
defender and become the prosecutor of our crimes. Just as the Lord has the opportunity to change
his mind and save the people in Exodus, we have the opportunity to change our
mind and habits and save ourselves.
Action
Let us pray for Pope Francis as he becomes our mediator,
peacemaker, and rebuilder of the Church in the modern world.
