To Whom Shall We Go

To Whom Shall We Go

April 20, 2013
Saturday of the Third Week of Easter
The Church throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria was at peace.  She was being built up and walked in the fear of the Lord, and with the consolation of the Holy Spirit she grew in numbers.  Acts 9:31-32
As a result of this, many of his disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer walked with him.  Jesus then said to the Twelve, “Do you also want to leave?”  Simon Peter answered him, “Master, to whom shall we go?  You have the words of eternal life.  We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God.”  John 6:66-69

Piety

Father, help us to listen carefully to the instructions of Jesus so that we can follow Him fully with the ear of our heart and in our piety, study and action.  Although the messages can be difficult, we know that they come from a Father who loves us as you love your Son.
Jesus, help us to faithfully put it into practice what you preach.  Through the inspirational obedience of the prophets and the saints, may we imitate their lives and turn away from our personal pursuits.
Holy Spirit, give us the gifts to help us surrender our own will, once and for all, and armed with the strong and noble weapons of obedience to do build the city of God in honor of our true King, Christ the Lord.

Study

“This saying is hard; who can accept it?”
Jesus never promised that following Him would be easy.  From the outset, many people who heard his message rejected it and returned to their comfortable life.
Jesus, pulled no punches.  He told people exactly what to expect.
"Pick up your cross daily and follow me."
"You will be lead where you do not want to go."
“Stop murmuring among yourselves.  No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draw him, and I will raise him on the last day."
Truth in advertising?  Perhaps.  Reality?  Definitely.

Action
