Do Not Worry

Do Not Worry

[at Beer-sheba] God, speaking to Israel in a vision by night, called, "Jacob! Jacob!" He answered, "Here I am." Then he said: "I am God, the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for there I will make you a great nation. Not only will I go down to Egypt with you; I will also bring you back here after Joseph has closed your eyes." Genesis 46:1-4

Jesus said to his Apostles: "Behold, I am sending you like sheep in the midst of wolves; so be shrewd as serpents and simple as doves. But beware of men, for they will hand you over to courts and scourge you in their synagogues, and you will be led before governors and kings for my sake as a witness before them and the pagans. When they hand you over, do not worry about how you are to speak or what you are to say. You will be given at that moment what you are to say.  Matthew 10:16-19

Piety

Study
Today, we meet up with more Hebrews on the move.  Jacob and his family are on their way to settle in Egypt and head to a reunion with Joseph.  God calls him from his present state to go out of the comforts of his home into the unknown.

Jesus continues to treat his followers as a Church in Exodus, sending out his disciples to be his witnesses in the world.  Jesus reminds them what the earlier Hebrews knew all too well…that they would not be treated well by the world and the temporal leaders.

Action
I took one of those stress tests where they ask you a bunch of questions and then tell you a score of how much stress you have in life.  Changing jobs and relocation are among the highest stress producers in life.  In both our readings today, we encounter situations where disciples are told to undergo such emotional stress and they willingly take it on.

Where is God sending you today?
