Revealed to the Childlike October 7

I had heard of you by word of mouth, but now my eye has seen you. Therefore I disown what I have said, and repent in dust and ashes. Job 42:5-6

I give you praise, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike. Luke 10:21

Piety

God, when we listen and truly hear your word, you reveal to us the mysteries of your kingdom. Help us to turn from our childlike pursuits to those activities which are required of your disciples and cursillistas. If it is your will, grant us this without the difficult lessons you taught to Job. If it is your will, may we listen and truly hear so we can take up your mission for us to build your Kingdom in this world. If it is your will, use us to defeat the powers of evil in the world. Amen.

Another perfect summary of our tasks as Cursillistas or Disciples is portrayed in today’s readings.

Whether in the Hebrew Bible or the Good News or the modern era, disciples (cursillistas) are rewarded with the revelation of the mysteries of the kingdom of God to the disciples because of their humility and obedience (PIETY). They are blessed with grace or God’s friendship.

Whether in the Hebrew Bible or the Good News or the modern era, disciples (cursillistas) are those learn consistently (STUDY) because they listen and truly hear, who look and truly see.

Whether in the Hebrew Bible or the Good News or the modern era, disciples (cursillistas) have a responsibility spread God’s message of love and friendship because they are so blessed. Through this ACTION, disciples (cursillistas) build up the Kingdom, Jesus gives disciples the power to defeat evil and its hold over humanity.

Job had a personal encounter directly with God. The seventy-two who walked with Jesus has a personal encounter directly with the Son of God. Today, we have that personal encounter through the power of the Holy Spirit and our Church teachers, leaders, and pastors.

Action

According to news accounts that rely on the story relayed by two of the survivors of the shooting in West Nickel Mines, PA, 13-year-old Marian Fisher, one of the five slain girls, asked to be shot first, apparently hoping the younger girls would be let go.

“'Shoot me and leave the other ones loose,”' Marian has been quoted as saying as she to her final blessed hour tried to conquer the forces of evil in the world.

If you are truly a disciple like Marian, you can not expect the communication with God to be a one-way street. God will not bless you with revelations unless you have to hold up your end of the relationship with conversation, shared experiences and acts that you do together.

There is a t-shirt that pops us occasionally. Its message is “Pray the Rosary. Your mother hasn’t heard from you in decades.”

Today, on the Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary, pray to Mary that the world will be blessed with millions of Marians who are willing to lay down their life so others may live. Such disciples truly hear and act on the Word of God that is revealed to them.
