He Must Increase

He Must Increase

We know that we belong to God, and the whole world is under the power of the Evil One. We also know that the Son of God has come and has given us discernment to know the one who is true. And we are in the one who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. Children, be on your guard against idols. 1 John 5:19-21

“The one who has the bride is the bridegroom; the best man, who stands and listens for him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom's voice.  So, this joy of mine has been made complete. He must increase; I must decrease.” John 3:29-30

Piety
Piety: Piety is directing one’s whole life to make God increase in our life over all else.

The Cursillista Beyond the Cursillo: No one can do everything, but everyone can do something to make God increase.

Study
To be on guard against idols, He must increase. There you have it.  The secret to life.

If you need to understand that more clearly, think of the reverse, to give in to idols, give Christ a smaller role in your life.

Just about every Cursillo Talk can be reduced to a small line for memory related to this “secret to life.”

What other “idol/ideal” encroaches on your life?

When we understand that the “person of Jesus Christ” was a man like us in all things but sin, we can turn over all of our life to him without fear.

“Study” is putting our minds at the service of allowing our understanding of God to increase.

“Leaders” know the way to make Jesus increase and show through word and deed that path to others.

Our “Study of the Environment,” requires that we talk to God about an increasing role in other people before we talk to other people about increasing God in their life.

Action
When we make a friend and be a friend to others, we help Jesus increase in our own lives and in theirs.

As a “Layperson in the Church,” if Christ increases as an influence in our life, our role in the church will be self-evident.

To attain “Total Security,” if I don’t bring an increase of Christ into my environments, who will?

If I truly am an example of “Christianity in Action,” then I will not be isolated from others because an isolated Christian is a paralyzed Christian who allows “idols” to take the place of God.
